8th Annual Food Not Lawns Fall Seed Swap

What happens when seed swaps meet avant-gardening collectives?

"Countercultures are transgressive, avant-garde movements. The countercultural embrace of change and experimentation inevitably results in going beyond accepted views and aesthetics...We are looking at boundary transgressions that change history." - Ken Goffman

The Seed Ambassadors Project played a defining role in the 8th annual Food Not Lawns Fall Seed Swap, held this year at the Maitreya EcoVillage in West Eugene from 3.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2006. And quite the alembic it proved. We hooked up with old friends and made some delightful new acquaintances - such events tend to draw 'em. Seed, plants, food and home-made wine came from all corners: while Mood Area 52, and the Underscore Orkestra gifted the captivating stagecraft.

An observation of some note: when the FNL collective very first began orchestrating local seedswaps some 8 years ago, commercial seed packets dominated the sharing. This seedswap, for the first time, all the seed made available had been saved locally by attendees. A new culture in the making!
